The Rise of Travel Mugs
Though the need for carrying around warm beverages has existed for ages the travel mug was not introduced until the early 1980′s. So what exactly is a travel mug? It’s a thermal insulated portable drinking vessel generally characterized by a thick walls and a sip area for easy drinking. Original travel mugs were made of metal and later switched to plastic because it was easier to carry and more affordable.
Other features were eventually added to these nifty portable mugs like easy grip handles, rubber grip bodies and further thermal insulation. The most modern mugs have switched to aluminum and stainless steel which are lighter metals that insulate heat better than plastic and are also affordable. Contemporary mugs resemble most modern technology in that they combine sleek designs with extremely convenient features.
There is a combination of reasons why travel mugs have become so popular which include: our fast paced lifestyles requiring technology that will keep up and our general love of warm beverages like coffee. Coffee is second only to oil when it comes to the most internationally traded products. Coffee is a staple in the work place and especially in office cultures. Travel mugs are easy to carry and fit perfectly in a car’s cup holder or on the side of a desk and are used by many on a daily basis.
